Michael grew up in Bavaria in Germany and studied landscape architecture. During his studies he met Cassion Schmidt from the Hermannshof. famous for naturalistic design and planting, and gardened with him. After which he moved to England to study at Great Dixter becoming a full-time employee after 2 years. Michael is now a full time Senior Gardener with responsibility for seed sowing as well as the growing of all bedding plants in Great Dixter. He has also gardened with Dan Pearson in Japan and has studied wild- flower communities in many countries including Israel, France and Turkey. He has spoken internationally about education, biodiversity and ornamental gardening and in his free time works with various councils and passionate environmental groups on habitat restoration.
