About The Club
The Foxrock and District Garden Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except June to August) in the Foxrock Parish Pastoral Centre. Each meeting features a guest speaker – national, international, or of local interest, a plant table showcasing specimens from members’ gardens, a raffle, and of course, tea and chat, the social highlight of the evening.
Over the years, the Club has hosted many distinguished speakers and special events, enriching our members’ knowledge and love of gardening. Proceeds from our plant sales are donated to charities chosen by our members each year. We also arrange a busy schedule of visits to private and public gardens both in Ireland and abroad.
Founded in June 1988 by Dr. Mary Toomey, along with Sally McGuinness, the late Gertie Eggers, Carmel FitzGerald, Sheila Lynch, and Eileen Magee, the Club’s first gathering took place in Sheila’s home. The inaugural public meeting soon followed in a small room off the old Foxrock Church Hall, attended by around 30 people.
Today, with over 250 members, the Club meets in the modern, spacious hall of the Foxrock Parish Centre. We are proud of our welcoming and inclusive community, which brings together gardening enthusiasts from beginners to experts. While most members are based in south Dublin, we are delighted to have participants from across Ireland.
The Foxrock and District Garden Club is affiliated with the Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland.
