About The Club

Meetings of Foxrock and District Garden Club are usually held on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except June to August) in Foxrock Parish Pastoral Centre, when we have a visiting lecturer (nationally or internationally known, or of local interest), a plant table consisting of specimens from our members’ gardens, a raffle and of course the cup of tea and chat – the all-important social end to the evening.

Among our activities are visits to private and public gardens at home and abroad and an annual photo competition covering a number of categories; from the entries to this competition we choose one to be printed as notelets for sale and the proceeds from these and from the plant table are donated to charities of our members’ choice.

Foxrock and District Garden Club was founded in 1988 by Dr. Mary Toomey with Sally McGuinness and the late Gertie Eggers, Carmel FitzGerald, Sheila Lynch and Eileen Magee. The first meeting of the founding six was held in Sheila’s home in June 1988 and the first Club meeting was held in a small meeting room off the old Foxrock Church Hall, at which there were approximately 30 people. Over the years we have had notable national and international speakers – including Roy Lancaster, John Kelly, Geoff Hamilton and Anna Pavord and more recently Alan Gray, Fergus Garrett and James Alexander-Sinclair. Our first symposium featured Helen Dillon and Jim Reynolds. In the early years, generous sponsorship from Mackey’s Garden Centre enabled meetings and speakers that would not otherwise have been possible.

Time has moved on – Foxrock and District Garden Club now has a membership in excess of 250 and our meetings are held in the very modern spacious hall in Foxrock Parish Centre, and in keeping with tradition, mainly on the fourth Tuesday of each month. We have a very friendly, inclusive policy and our members range from the novice gardener to the very knowledgeable. While our membership is mainly based in south Dublin, we have members from various parts of Ireland.

Foxrock and District Garden Club is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland. >>Click here to see their Events Page
