Our first trip of the year in April saw us visit Counties Carlow and Kildare. First up was Altamont in Tullow where, after listening to a brief history of the Estate, we were taken on a tour of the lovely gardens – a blend of formal and informal planting with sweeping lawns, woodland walks, and a beautiful tranquil lake.

Delta Sensory Gardens in Strawhill Co. Carlow was our second stop. Here we were taken through the collection of skilfully arranged gardens each designed to provide a peaceful oasis and appeal to the different senses.

Replete from a delicious lunch at the Forge Cafe we travelled on to the home of the late Botanical Artist Wendy Walsh – Burtown House and Gardens in Athy. We were welcomed by her daughter Lesley Farrell who took us on a tour of the sculptured walks, herbaceous borders and shrubberies, leaving us with just enough time to enjoy tea and cakes in the Courtyard, before our journey back to Dublin.
