Waterford – June 2023
Twenty of us travelled to Waterford at the end of June.
Our first stop was at Dromona Gardens in Cappoquin where the owners are busy trying to bring the garden back to what it was many years ago. They are investing a lot of time planting trees and shrubs. The garden is in a magnificent situation built on a cliff overlooking the River Suir.
Mount Congreve is in the process of being transformed since it has reopened. You can now not only see the house but go inside where there is a shop and restaurant. The trees are as magnificent as ever and work was starting in the walled garden the week after our visit. So there will be more to see the next time!
Woodhouse Garden in Stradbally is a magnificent example of a walled garden, laid out by someone with a good eye for colour.
The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Garden in Tramore is an example of how a hilly derelict site can be transformed into an atmospheric garden.
We visited Beechdale Garden Centre, Enniscorthy on the way home and most members took part in a bit of retail therapy.
