Dan Hinkley, Plantsman & Plant Hunter – ‘Connoisseurs Table’

Dan Hinkley is an American plantsman, plant hunter, garden writer, horticulturist, nursery man and lecturer. He is known throughout the world as one of our foremost plant explorers and plantsmen and is committed to sustainable horticultural practices and raising the collective awareness of the diversity of plant life on Earth, as well as the magic and mysteries of the natural world. Best known for creating two highly regarded gardens – Heronswood and Windcliff – the story of how one begat the other is celebrated in his recent book ‘Windcliff’ published in 2020. Over the years, Dan has collected, propagated and named varieties of plants new to the North American nursery trade. In his garden at Windcliff he grows a mix of different plants from North American natives to species from around the world.
Dan has a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture and Horticulture Education and an M.S. in Urban Horticulture and has been awarded many honours for his horticultural work including the Medal of Honor from the Garden Club of America; the Liberty Hyde Bailey Award from the American Horticultural Society for a lifetime of achievement in education, writing and plant exploration; and the Veitch Memorial Medal by the RHS for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of science and practice of horticulture.
