Mary Keenan, together with her husband Ross Doyle, is the owner of Gash Gardens & Nursery in County Laois. She has been gardening and growing plants for over 40 years. After qualifying with a degree in landscape horticulture from University College Dublin, she worked as a college lecturer at the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin for several years before joining South Dublin County Council as a Parks Superintendent. Over a period of almost 20 years in local authority, she held varying responsibilities in management and development of public parks and street tree management. She is a Past President and former Executive Director of the Tree Council of Ireland. Mary is now self-employed in the running of Gash Gardens & Nursery, where she enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for plants with visitors and specialises in growing interesting and unusual plants. She also works as a garden writer, lecturer, Tidy Towns adjudicator and horticultural consultant. As a long-time, regular columnist, and more recently as editor, with the Irish Garden magazine, Mary writes and lectures on a wide range of garden topics conveying her very practical, hands-on and down to earth approach to plants and gardening.
