We were blessed with good weather for our visit to Co. Meath – just a short hop across the M50 from Foxrock.
The morning was spent in Jane McCorkell’s stunning garden, Bramley Cottage, Killsallaghan. Jane told us how she had planned and planted the series of garden rooms with large perennial borders sitting perfectly into the landscape and surrounding her beautiful 18th century farmhouse. There was much to see as we strolled round in the lovely relaxed atmosphere, taking notes and photos whilst exclaiming at the beauty of this plant and that plant.
We moved on to Rathoath Garden Centre for a tour of the planted borders by John Lord who explained how he was careful to use plants that were suited to the soil and climate in Co. Meath. His strategy certainly worked as his borders were just beautiful to behold.
Afterwards we enjoyed a delicious lunch in their ‘Wildflower Cafe’ which gave us just the boost of energy needed to explore their Nursery, each of us eagerly choosing plants to buy from their very large selection. Our trip home took no time – offloading all the plants was another matter!
